Varney & Associates Selects Fieldguide as Strategic AI Partner Across Its Entire Audit and Advisory Practice
The 67-year-old Kansas firm is consolidating audit, tax, and client accounting services onto a single agentic AI platform while preserving its customized methodology.
SAN FRANCISCO, October 8, 2026 – Varney & Associates, CPAs, LLC (Varney), a firm headquartered in Manhattan, Kansas, today announced it has selected Fieldguide, the leading transformation partner for agentic audit and advisory, as its engagement partner across its entire practice. The agreement replaces the desktop engagement software Varney has run for 20 years and covers audit and attest, tax, and client accounting services.
Varney will bring its audit and attest practice to Fieldguide by the end of 2026, including employee benefit plan, government, nonprofit, and commercial audits, along with reviews, compilations, preparations, Form 990 tax work, and bank tax work. Its client accounting services and bank consulting teams follow in January, with business tax and individual returns moving over after the 2027 tax season.
“With every other platform we’ve used, we were the ones pushing it forward. Fieldguide is the first one pulling us along,” said Amanda VanKleeck, CPA, Principal and Quality Control Director at Varney & Associates. “We value an innovative partner with a clear vision for the future of AI in accounting and auditing. Our people's time is always at a premium, and this lets us give more of it to our clients."
Fieldguide embeds professional-grade Field Agents across the engagement lifecycle, from planning through close, with full human oversight. The platform enforces consistent application of Varney’s own audit methodology, built over the past three years, rather than requiring the firm to adopt a new one, with end-to-end traceability throughout.
The move also improves how Varney manages client requests. After Varney’s previous document-request platform shut down, the firm had relied on an interim tool. Because client requests will run inside the same platform as the engagement itself, Varney’s clients now get one real-time view of the engagement.
“Firms like Varney show what’s possible when a firm of any size modernizes on its own terms,” said Jin Chang, Co-Founder and CEO of Fieldguide. “They’re keeping the methodology they’ve built and giving clients a faster way to work with them, all in one move.”
